6th International Water Industry Conference.
The 6th International Water Industry Conference (IWIC) will be held virtually and on-site in Daegu, Korea with the support of the Daegu Metropolitan City on 22-23 September, 2020. It is unfortunate not to see and communicate with all the participants in person, but this dual-mode approach will compromise a lack of weak points each other and is better than no meeting. This year we organize the conference following the COVID-19 guidelines. International scholars and researchers will not be able to attend the meeting physically, but they will take part in the conference online. Domestic (Korean) participants are encouraged to come to the conference venue physically, but maintaining social distancing. The conference roomsare well equipped with on/off-line communication systems. Instant communications might be limited, but social network systems through the website/apps are prepared for maximizing virtual discussion.

More 40 national and international guest speakers, who will deliver keynote and oral lectures, are invited for the conference under the recent key themes in the water industry, such as: (1) recent trends and innovations in water technology; (2) anaerobic membrane bioreactor technologies for energy and resource recovery; (3) electrochemical resource recovery; (4) novel desalination technologies; (5) nanomaterials for water and wastewater reclamation; (6) renewable bioenergy and biomaterial production from wastes; (7) energy-efficient wastewater treatment; (8) carbon dioxide sequestering and conversion to valuable materials. In addition, students are strongly encourage to give online 5-min pitch contest presentations and the winners will be awarded a certificate with a prize.General speakers are also welcome to submit an abstract and give a virtual presentation. Moreover, they can attend the conference physically, so that will have the chance to meet some speakers and participants and see other water events on site.

Since the first meeting in 2015 after the 7th World Water Forum in Daegu, the IWIC has been a platform for water professionals to share knowledge and understanding of water technologies while emphasizing the practicality and feasibility in the water industry. Although the conditions are limited due to the Coronavirus issue this year, all the participants will still have the opportunity to learn something new and innovative for their future research and development. This on/off-line event is the first attempt ever in the IWIC history, but I hope it will be memorable, enjoyable, and fruitful to all the participants.
