SAKURA Exchange Program in Science

SAKURA Exchange Program in Science:
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam – Nagasaki University, Japan

The goal is to build a program that will strengthen the relationship between the young generation in Asia and Japan, who will play an important role in the future of science and technology through the close collaboration of industry-academia-government by facilitating Short-term visits for Vietnamese students / lecturers who have excellent academic records have the opportunity to come to Japan. The "Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science" (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science) aims to raise the interest of young Asian people in leading Japanese science and technology. The program takes place in Japanese Universities, Research Institutes, Private Companies and funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency.

First of all, I would like to send profound thanks to Prof. Takahiro Fujioka - Nagasaki University together with the BIOSEP team - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) were successfully built the Sakura Exchange Program (2018), all Professors and people at Nagasaki University, Kyowakiden Company, and Yamanato Water Treatment plant organized a study tour for students and staffs of Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in Japan.

It is our pleasure and also our honor to be participated in the “SAKURA Exchange Program in Science” for the first time, in which our team has visited Japan and studied at Nagasaki University in a week (5-11/3/2018). Although the program lasted only a week, the trip really gave new experiences for the students of HCMUT: learn Japanese culture, visit the labs, delicious traditional Japanese foods, exchange of experiences, research and knowledge between students of the two Universities, travel to many famous sites in Nagasaki, visit the Yamanato water treatment plant which is applying advanced Ceramic membrane technology, Kyowakiden Industry Company, and many excellent professors/doctors and engineers from Japanese companies and Nagasaki University. This was such a wonderful program for our students from HCMUT!

Through this program, I think students will be able to learn many new and useful things not only on the technical knowledge, but also on the culture and "lifestyle" of the Japanese people, see and learn how to work effectively to achieve the highest productivity. More than that our students also learned the Japanese work attitude, how to solve difficult problems in learning and working. During this trip, it was the enthusiasm, hospitality and dedication of Prof. Fujioka and his students (especially students from Vietnam) that made us feel really comfortable and joyful.

The Sakura Science Program will last for 3 years (2018-2020) and have the potentiality to continue in many years later with the BIOSEP - HCMUT. Hopefully this program will create many opportunities for Vietnamese students to learn many new and useful things from the "Land of the Sunrise”. We also hope that in the future, Japanese students will also have the opportunity to visit Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh University of Technology. This relationship will help promote cooperation and exchange of scientific research between Vietnam and Japan (Win-Win solution). Through this program, activities such as joint research, staff / student exchanges and Master / Ph.D scholarships between the two universities will increase in the following years.
